Success means different things
to different people. To some it is acquiring wealth, to some its fame, and to
others its acquiring nothing. Make your decision and stick with it, however it
may seem. Pursue your goals with diligence.
Today we want to the third
group of people who believe that Success means acquiring nothing – that is
equivalent to being unsuccessful.
Here are 7 ways to become
unsuccessful:
1. Be a Rave Critic:
People that end up being
unsuccessful are very good critics of every opportunity that comes their way.
I have an old friend like
that; he never makes a decision because he always finds a fault in every
opportunity. He is also fanatically idealistic, but in his critical mind, he
always finds faults in people that he is supposed to work with.
Be a rave critic if you want
to be unsuccessful.
2. Always have a Sense of Entitlement:
Always take credit for everything,
including things that you did not engineer.
Love the lime light, and be a
very selfish person.
Make sure to pull your
business or work partners down to take the glory of every achievement.
3. Talk about People’s Success:
It is very rewarding and satisfactory
to talk about people that have become successful; it is a very grand task
really. Make out time everyday to sit down, and analyze people’s wealth and
achievements.
I know that you wish you were
in the shoes of the rich person you are analyzing, but don’t do anything about
it except to be the town criers of the rich ones.
You will surely end up an
unsuccessful person with this tip.
4. Hoarding Information is Key:
I know you probably believe
yourself to be wise, and rich with information and knowledge about how to be
successful. And you know it is not wise to reveal your knowledge, right? If you
release that information other people might steal your ideas, and probably
succeed with it because they are proactive.
But answer this question, “If
they are not wise enough, why don’t you release the information to them?” Let me guess your answer, “Luck is on their
side”.
I have observed that most poor
people always seem to know a lot. When you bring up a topical problem, they
always have theoretical solutions for them. But they are still poor, even with
all these ideas.
I guess they are sages and
gurus with so much wisdom which is forbidden for the layman to know; aspire to
be a sage and a guru that cannot share information. You will surely arrive at
your destination.
5. Play the Blame Game:
I once met a man who hates the
Nigerian government. In the distant past, he worked for the Aba branch of the
Nigerian breweries PLC. He would always mention that the Northern led
government made him poor because he is Igbo.
The man is an ardent supporter
of Biafra secessionist movement because of this mindset. Indeed, most
supporters of the movement, no matter how righteous the movement is, are just
like this man. Always playing the blame game – blaming the Federal government
because it has been hijacked by the North.
Chief Innocent Chukwuma, the
CEO of the Innoson group of companies has never made such complaints because he
has built something for himself that everyone, including the government needs.
The Northern led government has not destroyed him.
Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu is on
record, the richest Igbo man alive. He does not blame the north for anything
because there is no reason to, and he is also an Igbo man.
However, you shouldn’t be like
these two men; their goals and yours are not the same. They want to be
successful, unlike you.
Just sit in your throne, and
complain.
6. Never Set Goals:
Goals help your vision.
Goals push you forward.
Goals set a track for you to run on.
But you don’t have to worry about setting goals because you don’t
want to be pushed, and you certainly do not have the strength to run on any
track; that’s too stressful and against your freedom of choice and your need
for comfort.
7. Change is not good:
Never adapt to change!
Change destroys traditions,
and status quo maintains things as they have been for generations. That is why
innovative ideas are bad, right?
Nigeria, and indeed Africa is
called a third world because we fear change. That is why it is absurd to hear
of a President of 40 years, or a billionaire at 25.
If you read up to this point,
then it means that you want to beat all the odds to become Very successful. That
is a good thing.
Whether you want to acquire
money, fame or make certain things go your way, the principles of success are
the same. It takes determination, perseverance and risk taking to acquire
success in any of these forms.
I, myself want to make certain
things go my way, and I believe that they will when I acquire wealth. I want to
make my mark in the continental Africa. I have a mentor that inspires me – His
name is Strive Masuyiwa.
Note: You should get a mentor that pushes you.
